Episode 1: Unequal Treatment of African Refugees fleeing Ukraine (Part 1)

Since the beginning of Russia’s war against Ukraine, several European countries showed preparedness to welcome Ukrainian citizens that seek protection. Among these migrants, citizens from African countries faced several challenges fleeing Ukraine. They reported to have experienced physical violence in East European countries, being pushed off buses and detained at EU borders. This episode will approach the role of European civil society and diaspora organizations’ advocacy work on bringing awareness to the situation of African refugees in Europe.

Episode 2: African Diasporas in Europe: Actors of Economic, Social and Cultural Development of Regions

Diasporas have been recognized as crucial actors for global development, in particular due to their contribution to the economies of their countries of destination and, simultaneously, to their origin countries through financial remittances. At the same time, diasporas also play a significant role in shaping social and cultural development of regions. This episode will explore what the work of African diaspora organisations in Europe concretely looks like and if new forms of their engagement can be promoted.

Episode 3: Reframing the Narratives of African Migration in the European Public Opinion

Despite the enormous diversity of the African continent and its population, media representations of Africa in European countries are mostly characterized by negative stereotypes and directly associated with wars, diseases and catastrophes. In this episode, we will approach the role of civil society organisations in promoting new narratives of African migration in Europe that are based on verified facts and contribute to openness and inclusion.
